Milkweed's art nouveau explosion
Curved lines and extravagance of
Silken shimmer, subtle textures
Happens but for a brief time
Gossamer strands will catch the breeze
And on their fairy parachutes
The simple seeds will journey far
Leaving the smooth cradle of the
Dried, open pod for
Field and forest, roadside and flowerbed
The elegance will fade, but the simple seed
Holds the secret, and with time, and sun
Soil and rain and seasons
Will someday spread
Its own glorious children
To the wind, to the wind
To the world
